 The new kind of job in the U.S.

Lower-wage jobs, with median hourly wages of $7.68 to $13.83, accounted for only 21% of job losses during the downturn but have accounted for more than half, 58%, of all job growth. Jobs that saw the fastest growth were retail sales positions (at a median wage of $10.97 an hour) and food preparation workers ($9.04 an hour). Since June 2009, each of those fields has grown by more than 300,000 workers.

Unemployment Rate in the United States increased to 7.30 percent in October of 2013 from 7.20 percent in September of 2013.

Gross domestic product in the third quarter rose at a 3.6 percent annual rate, up from an initial estimate of 2.8 percent and the strongest since the first quarter of 2012, the Commerce Department in Washington said today.

The companies that  pay lower salaries:

Yum Brands (KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell chains) - The hourly median wage is  less than $8 an hour.
Kroger - The hourly median wage is  less than $9 an hour.
Target - Average salary  for a cashier or an employee on sales floor is less than $9
McDonald's - The hourly median wage is just over $9.00
Wal-Mart - The average full-time hourly wage is $12.83.
